Who are you?
Hi! My name is Angie Greving and I am the Marketing Communications Manager at Insight FS in Wisconsin. After my day job I’m a mom of two girls, 16 and 13 and run a small herd of registered boer goats.
How long have you worked with cooperatives?
I joined Insight FS in 2017. Before that, I spent 16 years working at agricultural agencies supporting clients in food and ag with marketing, crisis communications and sustainability.
Describe your role.
In my role at Insight FS, I manage internal and external communications, marketing, our culture program and anything in between. I’ve grown the team from just me to a team of two and a summer intern. I can find myself shooting and editing videos, drafting copy, managing our FS Way Culture program and steering committee, or distributing e-newsletters. No day is the same.
What do you enjoy about working with cooperatives?
I love the farmer connection that you find when working at the cooperative. I also love working with the next generation of customers. I often find myself in classrooms talking about my role and how students can prepare for a future in the cooperative landscape.
When did you join CCA? Why?
I’ve been in CCA for about 3 years. I was interested in seeing what other cooperatives were doing to support their customers. As a group of peers, I find value in discussing opportunities and challenges with similar industries.
Did anything surprise you about CCA upon joining?
I’ve enjoyed challenging myself with entries for the CCA Communications Contest. Over the last two years, our team has entered contests and placed well. We also have challenged ourselves to stand apart. I’ve enjoyed the Institute as well.
How has CCA supported you in your career?
We don’t always get a chance to showcase our work alongside our peers. Being awarded a CCA Communications Award has been a great way to share our successes with our whole cooperative. I have also found the connector groups helpful in finding new ways to challenge the status quo.
What are your hobbies and interests?
We raise registered boer goats and I love kidding season. It is a challenging time of year, but one that is very rewarding. I also love travelling with my family.
Do you have a “bucket list”? What are some of the things on that list?
I really don’t keep a bucket list. Some day I look forward to more travel and the possibility of spoiling grandkids.
Give us something about yourself that is surprising or that most people don’t know.
I’ve done three cover albums in Tennessee. As a singer and past member of the Kids from Wisconsin, I use to sing all over and open for some pretty amazing singers like Trace Adkins. I decided to pursue a career and a family instead of singing for my supper.
What advice would you give to professional communicators just starting their careers?
Be flexible and willing to try new things. Don’t read a job listing and say, “I’m not going to apply because I can’t do everything on the list.” My career has been full of risky job changes and a complete career change in my 40s. Take the risk. It will be worth it in the long run.
