Anna Tibbit

Who are you?
Anna K. Tibbit, Director of Member Communications at Northeast Louisiana Power Cooperative in Winnsboro, Louisiana

How long have you worked with cooperatives?
It will be 9 years in May.

Describe your role.
I am the sole ‘communicator’ at my cooperative. However, I transitioned into this role from customer service and billing, so I feel like I’ve been in a communications role from the beginning. I create content for our monthly newspaper. I also manage our website, outage communications, and social media. I also advocate for the cooperative at community events and help in planning events the co-op hosts.

What do you enjoy about working with cooperatives?
There are many, many things that I enjoy about working at a cooperative. I am a people person, and I feel like cooperatives have some of the best people working for them! We share our ideas, our methods, and our unique perspectives, and I feel tremendously blessed to be a part of that.

When did you join CCA? Why?
I joined in 2017 after a brief visit to the CCA Institute held in Baton Rouge. A colleague involved in planning that Institute spoke highly of the organization and its benefits.

Did anything surprise you about CCA upon joining?
I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the presentations. The content of CCA webinars, PDWs and the Institute (my first full Institute was just last year) has proven to be invaluable.

How has CCA supported you in your career?
The first PDW I attended in 2019 directly resulted in my transition into my current communications role. Most recently, friends that I have made through CCA helped me tremendously when I launched our co-op’s first social media page.

What are your hobbies and interests?
I enjoy gardening, canning and fermenting food, and raising beef cattle and chickens.

Do you have a “bucket list”? What are some of the things on that list?
I’m only a few states away from having visited them all, and I want to see the giant red woods.

Give us something about yourself that is surprising or that most people don’t know.
I played World of Warcraft for many years and met a lot of great people from across the country and the world through the game, both online and in real life. I even got a job through contacts I made!

What advice would you give to professional communicators just starting their careers?
Never dismiss the simple solution!
