Katelynn Baer

Who are you?
Katelynn Baer, Corporate Communications Programming Specialist, GROWMARK, Inc.

How long have you worked with cooperatives?
I started in GROWMARK’s Crop Nutrients department in January 2019. After a year in that role, I was hired into my current role within Corporate Communications. I almost have 3.5 years with the company.

Describe your role.
My expertise areas are in a/v production (photo and video), event management and planning, and process improvement.

What do you enjoy about working with cooperatives?
I love the support and comradery between all the companies!

When did you join CCA? Why?
I joined CCA as soon as I started my current role…so March 2020. I joined to help further my knowledge in communications, meet new folks, and learn more about other coop structures around the country.

Did anything surprise you about CCA upon joining?
Everyone is so welcoming, outgoing, and happy—which is exactly how I try and treat others. You don’t always find that in other associations you are a part of. I felt like I was surrounded by REAL people!

What are your hobbies and interests?
In addition to working at GROWMARK, my husband and I farm and run a livestock operation (sheep), own a small excavating business, and I also do photography on the side. Currently, all our kids have four-legs and lots of fur. We have two Border Collies and an indoor kitty, Trigger, Trixie, and Tilley (respectively). In my free time I play and sing in a band and love hanging out with friends and family. I love to be outdoors hiking, kayaking, and adventuring!

Do you have a “bucket list”? What are some of the things on that list?
I would love to travel all 50 states and visit at least one state/national park in each!

Give us something about yourself that is surprising or that most people don’t know.
I love music! I fluently play four instruments (guitar, mandolin, piano, and clarinet) and am currently learning how to play two others (fiddle, ukulele). I am in a band called The Rainmaker’s…we named it that because 80% of the time we play, it rains. I love music so much I have a treble clef/redbud tattooed on my left lower arm/wrist.
