Who are you?
I’m Whitney Dixon, Member Services representative at Planters Electric Membership Corporation (PEMC) in Millen, Georgia.
How long have you worked with cooperatives?
I worked part time at PEMC in college during summers and Christmas breaks from May 2014 until January 2017. I have worked there full time for two years.
Describe your role.
Working at a small co-op, I wear many hats. My main roles are writing and editing our monthly newsletter, curating and manning the PEMC Facebook page, and attending community events throughout our service territory. I take high bill complaints as well as budget billing calls. I also work with Randy to coordinate the Washington Youth Tour and Planters EMC Scholarship program.
What do you enjoy about working with cooperatives?
I love the family atmosphere and everyone’s willingness to share ideas and resources.
When did you join CCA? Why?
I joined CCA in January 2019 at the recommendation of my supervisor, Randy Hill.
Did anything surprise you about CCA?
I was surprised by the number of opportunities to get involved and that there are members from all over the U.S.
What’s been your favorite thing about CCA so far?
Probably the variety of cooperatives that are involved. It is great to get fresh new perspectives and ideas from outside the EMC world.
What are your hobbies and interests?
I enjoy good food, concerts, traveling, all things Christmas, being on the water with my boyfriend, Worth, spending time with my family and friends, and cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs between the hedges in the fall.
Do you have a “bucket list”? What are some of the things on that list?
Visiting New York City at Christmas, going out West to places like Wyoming and Montana, and seeing a concert at the Grand Ole Opry and Ryman Auditorium in Nashville!
Give us something about yourself that is surprising or that most people don’t know.
In high school, I was a 2012 Washington Youth Tour Delegate representing the cooperative for which I currently work.
